Description ENG
This project was part of the Viinikanlahti International Urban Ideas Competition 2019–2020, proposing a new neighbourhood centred on integration, sustainability, and quality of place. Designed to benefit all of Tampere, not just its new residents, the concept is based on ‘reflection’—echoing the lake’s edge and mirroring the city itself.
Our masterplan integrates seamlessly with Tampere’s urban fabric while creating a greener, more dynamic, and sustainable district. It fosters connectivity with the city centre, addressing historic disconnections through high-quality public spaces and community facilities. The plan also improves lakeside access via two key routes from Hatanpään Valtatie—one near a proposed tram stop and another extending Hatanpäänkatu’s southern route. These pedestrian- and cycle-friendly corridors will feature green spaces and flood resilience measures.
The district will have two distinct hubs: a high-density, mixed-use northern hub and a health & wellbeing hub in the southwest. These will link the adjacent hospital with new leisure and lakeside recreational facilities, alongside an expanded marina with ferry access.
